School Environmental Clubs Namibia
SEC Namibia coordinates eco-clubs across Namibia's schools, runs the High Schools Environmental Debate and the Primary Schools Quiz, and gives young Namibians a hands-on stake in the land, water, and wildlife they're inheriting.
Who we are
SEC Namibia isn't a curriculum — it's a network. We give clubs the structure, the funding, and the events calendar; the learners decide what gets fixed.
From Khomasdal Primary to DHPS, each club runs its own waste, water, or biodiversity project with SEC support.
The High Schools Environmental Debate and Primary Schools Quiz turn research into public speaking and friendly competition.
Every project is sited in Windhoek — school gardens, neighbourhood clean-ups, and water-use audits learners can actually walk to.
School Environmental Clubs Namibia was founded by a small group of Windhoek teachers who noticed something: learners who could recite the water cycle from a textbook often had no idea how Windhoek's own water actually got to their tap, or what happened to it after.
So SEC built a different kind of program — one where clubs run real, small-scale projects on their own campuses, and once a year, those projects feed into two flagship events that bring schools together: the High Schools Environmental Debate, hosted at DHPS, and the Primary Schools Quiz, which travels between member schools each term.
None of it runs on goodwill alone. Transport for learners from outlying schools, debate adjudicators, quiz materials, and the small grants that get a club's compost system or rainwater tank actually built — all of it depends on donors and sponsors who back the work between events, not just on the day.
Our annual events
The Debate and the Quiz are the heartbeat of SEC's calendar — every member school builds toward them.
